Entry #4. Unpopular Opinions About Society Norms.

You can only “be yourself” in public if “yourself” is socially acceptable.

Who deems you worthy, successful, or acceptable? Not society, but that is what many people believe. Waking up in a world infatuated with looks and likes is mentally draining. Social standards are the hierarchy of these issues and the very basis of the reality of the world we live in. Conforming to this world and forgetting the basis of your opinions is a dangerous path and can lead to many mental illnesses and health issues.

Society always told you how to act, what to wear, who to be friends with, and what to believe. Society is deceitful and causes more harm than good. The stress of wanting to fit in and be accepted by society is a false reality far too many of us make, and we sometimes lose ourselves in the process. Constantly feeling a tug and pull from society norms and your true self, it is hard to remain grounded in your beliefs when everything in society goes against them. With technology so advanced, it can make it hard not to be consumed in worldly matters when with one click you can know about anything that is happening in the world and what the latest trends are.

I want to challenge you further to go against social norms and what is deemed acceptable in our culture today. Everyone has their mindset to thinking, but not everyone considers that when looking for validation in society. It is not always easy to act normal or be your true self when external judgment plays a central role in how we behave while influencing our decision-making.

Society isn't something you get to choose, but you do get to choose how you act. You do not always have to agree with others, you can respect their opinion, but they do not define who you are. There will always be disagreements and unpopular opinions in life, but that is what makes us all unique and special. Life isn't in black and white, and there is color and beauty to each of us.

That is why it is critical to be yourself and love who you were created to be because no one can take that away from you. You are unique, beautiful, and different, despite what society may think. To me and many others, you are loved and accepted.

  1. I agree with what you are saying and I hold myself to being me. All you really have in life is yourself so it is important to stay true to yourself.
