Entry #10. How To Stop Overthinking.

Image
You finally have a few quiet moments to yourself, only to immediately start wondering about all the responsibilities that await. Flooded with thoughts of overthinking about circumstances out of our control, we sink into a loop of rumination. Worrying and overthinking are natural parts of life, but they may harm our health if left uncontrolled. Learning to take control of our emotions and thoughts by involving ourselves in activity shuts down negative behavior. It can feel impossible to start something new when we are overwhelmed by our thoughts.                                          Setting aside time for ourselves might be difficult, but we can begin by setting little objectives for ourselves to achieve. Closing our eyes and being aware of our breathing, and freeing all of our emotions, finding a moment of peace, relaxation, and validation in a time of stillness. Remember ...

Entry #9. Safer Food Means A Healthier You.

What are all these growth hormones doing in our food and, why are they causing us harm?                             Farmers inject hormones into young livestock due to the high demand in our society today, causing mass production of hormone-induced food. I wanted to share this comic with you to spread awareness about the unnecessary chemicals added to our food. Despite the low levels of hormones added, they can still cause drastic changes to our development.  Many of our health problems today are due to added steroids and chemicals in vegetables and meat products. These can cause hormones in our body to mess up and throw off our natural health cycle. Even though the presence of these growth hormones is small, they still leave a disturbing presence in our minds.  You can argue it with a socially conditioned response but, you simply can not argue with the statistics. I know there are many controversies ov...

Entry #8. Music Has The Power To Heal

Image
Do you ever found yourself so affected by a song that you're on the verge of crying? Have you ever gone to a live concert that made your bad day better? Or heard a song that made you feel something?  We often feel like crying when we listen to music because we are moved by amazement and appreciation. The sensation is one of awe at the realization of what other brains are capable of. Awe is defined as a sensation of being overwhelmed by the object of grandeur, accompanied by sensitivity to greatness. Music can move and transform us.   People who have trouble expressing their emotions verbally may find it easier to communicate their feelings via music. Music can extract emotions within us if we listen closely.  Billy Joel once said, " I think music in itself is healing. It's an explosive expression of humanity. It's something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we're from, everyone loves music."  I think this quote sums up how I want to portray music i...

Entry #7. How Fresh Is Your Food?

Image
The documentary "Fresh" goes behind the scenes of agriculture farming, and today I am going to analyze their goal towards consumers. My initial reaction to the film Fresh was shocking. Knowing where my food comes from has always been an important concern to me. What I put in my body, how my food has been prepared and making sure it is fresh are all important aspects of my diet.                                                The film aimed to raise viewers' consciousness about factory farms and the drawbacks of monoculture while also focusing on healthier alternatives. Restaurant workers and grocery store producers are centered on entertainment via the consumption of food. With factory farm workers, it is expensive to accommodate the amount of food supply needed, which is caused by mass production. Farm animals require constant supplies of food and water and a la...
