Entry #10. How To Stop Overthinking.

Image
You finally have a few quiet moments to yourself, only to immediately start wondering about all the responsibilities that await. Flooded with thoughts of overthinking about circumstances out of our control, we sink into a loop of rumination. Worrying and overthinking are natural parts of life, but they may harm our health if left uncontrolled. Learning to take control of our emotions and thoughts by involving ourselves in activity shuts down negative behavior. It can feel impossible to start something new when we are overwhelmed by our thoughts.                                          Setting aside time for ourselves might be difficult, but we can begin by setting little objectives for ourselves to achieve. Closing our eyes and being aware of our breathing, and freeing all of our emotions, finding a moment of peace, relaxation, and validation in a time of stillness. Remember ...

Entry #9. Safer Food Means A Healthier You.

Image
What are all these growth hormones doing in our food and, why are they causing us harm?                             Farmers inject hormones into young livestock due to the high demand in our society today, causing mass production of hormone-induced food. I wanted to share this comic with you to spread awareness about the unnecessary chemicals added to our food. Despite the low levels of hormones added, they can still cause drastic changes to our development.  Many of our health problems today are due to added steroids and chemicals in vegetables and meat products. These can cause hormones in our body to mess up and throw off our natural health cycle. Even though the presence of these growth hormones is small, they still leave a disturbing presence in our minds.  You can argue it with a socially conditioned response but, you simply can not argue with the statistics. I know there are many controversies ov...

Entry #8. Music Has The Power To Heal

Image
Do you ever found yourself so affected by a song that you're on the verge of crying? Have you ever gone to a live concert that made your bad day better? Or heard a song that made you feel something?  We often feel like crying when we listen to music because we are moved by amazement and appreciation. The sensation is one of awe at the realization of what other brains are capable of. Awe is defined as a sensation of being overwhelmed by the object of grandeur, accompanied by sensitivity to greatness. Music can move and transform us.   People who have trouble expressing their emotions verbally may find it easier to communicate their feelings via music. Music can extract emotions within us if we listen closely.  Billy Joel once said, " I think music in itself is healing. It's an explosive expression of humanity. It's something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we're from, everyone loves music."  I think this quote sums up how I want to portray music i...

Entry #7. How Fresh Is Your Food?

Image
The documentary "Fresh" goes behind the scenes of agriculture farming, and today I am going to analyze their goal towards consumers. My initial reaction to the film Fresh was shocking. Knowing where my food comes from has always been an important concern to me. What I put in my body, how my food has been prepared and making sure it is fresh are all important aspects of my diet.                                                The film aimed to raise viewers' consciousness about factory farms and the drawbacks of monoculture while also focusing on healthier alternatives. Restaurant workers and grocery store producers are centered on entertainment via the consumption of food. With factory farm workers, it is expensive to accommodate the amount of food supply needed, which is caused by mass production. Farm animals require constant supplies of food and water and a la...

Entry #6. Growing Up.

Image
Growing Up                When we close our eyes and imagine our childhood, we see simplicity, laughter, and joy. We go back to where we experience everything for the first time: heartache, pain, and love. I think we can all remember a time where we looked back on our lives and wanted to turn back the clock. The thing is, we can't turn back the clock, we can't change the past, we can just change the now.  The thief is not ourselves but time. Time is continuous and cannot slow down. Growing up is never easy. You gain more responsibilities,  make new friends, and wonder what the future will bring. But in life, we cannot hold on to the past, and we have to let go of things that hold us back. The future can be scary and uncertain. When we try to escape ourselves, life has an interesting way of creating situations that force us to come back. To look at who we are. The thing is that growing brings us to a new experience with life....

Entry #5. Does Your Insurance Cover Tailgaters?

Image
We have all been there, rushing to get to a place and happen upon unfortunate situations that often leave us financially hurt. Allstate Auto Insurance "Mayhem" provides humorous commercials to persuade the audience to rethink their safety and question their car insurance reliability. The Insurance company wants the viewers to express the positive feeling of knowing their insurance protects them no matter what happens. The creatively crafted ad depicts a situation we may all be familiar with, more or less. Allstate provides a quirky and humorous commercial that tries to persuade viewers, specifically car owners, to get Allstate protection and feel safe while driving.  The ad commercial starts with a man energetic and eager to get to a football game tailgate party and tailgates a civilian.  The civilian is getting upset at the driver but ironically isn't paying attention to what is in front of him, causing him to collide with a truck, resulting in extensive damage to his ca...

Entry #4. Unpopular Opinions About Society Norms.

Image
You can only “be yourself” in public if “yourself” is socially acceptable.                        Who deems you worthy, successful, or acceptable? Not society, but that is what many people believe. Waking up in a world infatuated with looks and likes is mentally draining. Social standards are the hierarchy of these issues and the very basis of the reality of the world we live in. Conforming to this world and forgetting the basis of your opinions is a dangerous path and can lead to many mental illnesses and health issues.  Society always told you how to act, what to wear, who to be friends with, and what to believe. Society is deceitful and causes more harm than good. The stress of wanting to fit in and be accepted by society is a false reality far too many of us make, and we sometimes lose ourselves in the process. Constantly feeling a tug and pull from society norms and your true self, it is hard...
